As St. Tammany Parish looks to turn the page on a decade of leadership instability, Scott P. Illing stands alone as the only candidate for sheriff offering an exceptional blend of elite federal vetting, diverse multi-agency experience, and lifelong commitment.

Scott Illing has been vetted by the FBI, the Department of Justice, and the United States Senate. In April 2018, President Donald Trump selected Illing to serve as the U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Louisiana. This appointment required a rigorous, top-tier background investigation by the FBI and DOJ, followed by a formal confirmation by the United States Senate. He is the only candidate whose character and professional record have been audited and approved at the highest levels of the American government. At a time when the Sheriff’s Office needs to restore public trust, he offers a standard of conduct verified at the highest levels of government.
As U.S. Marshal, he was the architect of the federal-local partnership that embedded STPSO deputies into the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force. This gave local deputies federal authority to cross jurisdictional lines, resulting in the clearance of hundreds of local warrants for murder, armed robbery, and rape.
He spearheaded "Operation Surprise," large-scale sex offender compliance sweeps in conjunction with the STPSO. These operations provided the federal resources necessary to ensure a 100% compliance rate among registered offenders in the parish.
Working through HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area), Scott facilitated the sharing of federal intelligence and asset forfeiture funds. When his federal teams seized assets from traffickers on local highways, he ensured a portion of those funds returned to the STPSO to purchase technology and equipment, saving local taxpayers money.
At the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), he provided the high-tech forensic support and federal warrants necessary for local detectives to investigate and prosecute the online exploitation of children.
Having served as a Louisiana State Trooper at Troop L in Mandeville, Scott worked side-by-side with local deputies during major hurricanes, emergency responses, and joint criminal investigations.
As U.S. Marshal, he managed judicial security, witness protection, and the apprehension of violent fugitives. Previously, he served as a Supervisory Special Agent for Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and U.S. Customs, where he directed complex investigations into narcotics trafficking, anti-terrorism, and financial crimes.
Served as a Louisiana State Trooper, managing public safety and criminal investigations at the state level.
Began his service as a Reserve Covington Police Officer and a Reserve East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Deputy, gaining firsthand experience in community-level policing.
